Quite apart from the fact that the name "Warrior" is a justifiable enough reason to want to own this vehicle, the Mitsubishi L200 is an incredibly desirable pickup. It's steeped in 30 years of history, and the latest version features a superb modern engine, great fuel economy and a wide range of spec.
Mitsubishi's presence in the UK market is growing every year, and nowhere is that more prominent than in the pickup market sector. The L200 itself has a long and solid history in the UK, having been a regular sight for the past 30 years. The latest generation is a major step up from the previous one, representing a clear improvement across the whole design.
But don't just take our word for it, Pickup Trucks Direct customer Andrew Pottage described the vehicle as "very practical, yet still has the comforts and spec of a family car" – a major plus for business users who want to double up the use of their new vehicle. Happy customer Hollie Miller is of the same mind, and told us that her L200 is "a great mix for work and family use, plenty of space and power". Let's take a closer look, shall we?
Efficiency as standard
Across the range, the fuel economy of the L200 is really strong. At entry level we're looking at 40.9mpg. And the higher levels aren't that far away: the 5-speed auto variety hits 37.7mpg – better than a lot of rivals!
That five-year warranty though
Peace of mind is something you can't put a price on, so a five-year warranty is incredibly desirable. The basic spec of the warranty is five years or 62,000 miles, whichever comes first. Services are set at 12,500 miles or 12 months, again depending on whatever comes first.
Power is its middle name
One area the L200 can be said to beat its rivals is in engine power. At entry level, the 2.4 litre MIVEC diesel engine is powerful enough for any kind of use. And the higher you go in the range, the more power you get coupled with 4x4 off-road capability. Users describe the L200 as unflappable – you can throw demands at it and it just shrugs them off.
It's practical and spacious
Space, durability, comfort and style. Four bedfellows that Mitsubishi have almost too easily combined in the L200. Users describe it as a perfect blend of workhorse and family car, which today makes pickups all the more compelling a choice when choosing a business vehicle.
It CAN lift!
The load bay is an impressive 1,470mm square with a depth of 475mm, features six load lashing points, and has a maximum payload capacity of 1,050kg. A braked trailer added to the back can carry up 3,100kg. Mitsubishi themselves claim the L200 can achieve a total trailer and payload carrying capacity of well over 4,000kg – something none of its rivals can do!
