Young drivers 'need rural road training'

Individuals looking to lease Ford Ranger pickups may agree with one expert's claims that more needs to be done to address fatalities on rural roads.
Director of policy and research at the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) Neil Greig explained how young drivers should be taught about the potential hazards of travelling outside of urban areas.
"In the UK, between two-thirds and three-quarters of fatalities occur on rural roads, yet driving on rural roads still isn't a mandatory part of the basic driving test," he stated.
His comments came after recent statistics from the Department of Transport revealed that fewer people are speeding in 30mph zones.
In 2010, the number of vehicles driven above the speed limit was 46 per cent, which is a reduction from 69 per cent in 1998.
Recent research conducted by the IAM found that men are twice as likely to be involved in a collision due to being in a hurry, careless or reckless.
