Winter tyres checks 'should be done now'

Individuals driving Mitsubishi L200 pickups may want to take heed of one expert's advice and carry out checks on their tyres before winter.
Ring Automotive urged motorists to look at the condition of their wheels, the tyre pressure and tread depth to ensure they meet the safety standard.
Drivers were warned that incorrect pressure can lead to accidents as snow and ice pose grip problems and make travelling more hazardous.
When checking tyres, individuals were advised to do so before setting off on a journey and the correct pressure level can be found in the vehicle's handbook.
Equally dangerous are cuts or bulges that appear in the wall of the tyre as they can mean there is damage to the internal structure of the wheel, it was noted.
Last winter, Ring Automotive advised drivers to be aware of flat batteries, which can occur when vehicles are only used for short journeys or if something like headlights have been left turned on.
