Winter tyres 'are a good investment'

Mitsubishi L200 drivers may decide it is time to change to their winter tyres after hearing one expert's comments.

Aviva's senior motor underwriter Nigel Bartram explained how it is important people begin preparing for snow and ice.

He recommended stocking up on de-icer and checking anti-freeze levels, as well as investing in wheels that can handle adverse weather.

"Winter tyres would not prevent all accidents, but their better grip would increase the chances of the driver having a safer journey in difficult conditions," Mr Bartram stated.

The motoring specialist noted they are not just useful in snow and ice, but also once temperatures fall below seven degrees Celsius.

According to Aviva, motorists in countries that are used to difficult driving conditions - such as the Netherlands - have begun to recognise the benefits of winter tyres in recent years.

With the last two British winters witnessing widespread heavy snowfall that brought chaos to the roads, many people may heed Mr Bartram's warning.
