Winter drivers 'should pack warm clothes and shovel'

Individuals planning to venture outside in their Nissan Navara pickup during the winter months have been advised to ensure they carry an emergency kit in case their vehicle breaks down.

A survey conducted by Manheim Auctions revealed only 33 per cent of people carry warm clothing in their car, while even fewer (21 per cent) pack a shovel for digging out of the snow.

Marketing director at the organisation Craig Mailey said: "Preparing for winter is second nature to many people but it goes beyond just carrying an ice scraper and de-icer."

He warned individuals that they should be able to confront every eventuality including being stuck in traffic for long periods of time of stranded in thick snow.

Motorists were asked to give their top winter driving tips as part of the poll, with 89 per cent listing topping-up screen wash as their number one must-do.

Individuals may also want to invest in an ice scraper and anti-freeze as experts have predicted winter 2011 is set to feature freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall.
