Weather Damaged Roads Causing Gridlock

Newly released figures compiled by ELGIN (the Electronic Local Government Information Network) have revealed that this February has seen a huge increase in the number of roadworks caused by the recent spell of bad weather. The figures show a ten fold increase on the same period last year, and would indicate that the level of roadworks causing moderate or severe disruption is set to continue through March.

ELGIN found that in February there were 3,204 incidents of 'serious' road works compared to 6,290 for the whole of 2009.

Part of the reason for the severe disruption over the next few weeks is that many councils plan to spend their road repair budget before the financial year ends in April
