Vehicles 'should be prepped before driven in cold weather'

Ford Ranger drivers may want to take note of one expert's advice on how to prepare for travelling in bad weather.

Head of training at the Institute of Advanced Motorist's Drive and Survive Simon Elmstow provided tips on what to do before starting a car engine.

Firstly, individuals were encouraged to clean their car windows inside and out to prevent misting up.

The next step is to remove any snow off the car bonnet and roof, as well as the windows.

"Spending time to prepare your car for the weather conditions is important so that it copes well throughout your journey," Mr Elmstow remarked.

Once the vehicle has been prepped, the expert suggested switching the engine and heater on so the windows do not steam up and using the 'ice' setting if the car or van has one.

Mr Elmstow recently commented that motorists should increase their stopping distances by up to ten times when driving in icy conditions.
