Vehicles 'should be prepared for winter driving'

Preparing vehicles for winter driving may be something individuals leasing Toyota Hilux pickups want to ensure they do.
According to spokeswoman for the Institute of Advanced Motorists Caroline Holmes, there are a number of steps people can take to limit their chance of a collision or breakdown in adverse conditions.
She urged drivers to check their windscreen wipers are in good working order and to regularly clean both the inside and outside of their windscreen.
Motorists were also encouraged to make sure their headlights are all functioning, while tread depths on tyres need to be at least 1.6mm, with 3mm providing "optimum safety".
Ms Holmes stressed the importance of carrying an ice scraper and emergency breakdown kit, which should include a high-visibility jacket, boots, food and water, a torch, a spade and a mobile phone.
Those who are less inclined to use their vehicles during the winter months may want to take note of recent advice from senior partner at TorqueCars.com Waynne Smith, who explained how leaving motors "idling on a driveway" can cause engine wear.
