Vehicle leasing 'does not contribute to insurance problems'

Individuals who have leased Isuzu Rodeo pickups are unlikely to contribute to the problem of uninsured drivers, it has been suggested.
Jay Parmar, legal and policy director for the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA), explained how members of the organisation require people to have insurance.
He claimed that leasing companies would "want to be assured" that customers have motor insurance as they need to know any accidents can be paid for.
Mr Parmar suggested that while the motoring sector on the whole is to blame for problems with people getting behind the wheel without cover, members of the BVRLA are not part of this.
"It's these individuals who maliciously and wilfully never want to be insured [and] we've been caught up as an unintended consequence," he stated.
The comments follow the recent introduction of Continuous Insurance Enforcement regulations by the government.
According to the government, uninsured drivers cost other motorists around £380 million each year.
