Underinflated tyres costing UK drivers millions, says Michelin

Pickup truck leasing drivers could be wasting vast sums in fuel costs because of underinflated tyres, it has been suggested.
New research by French tyre maker Michelin has found that UK motorists are losing out on more than £440 million pounds a year by driving with vehicles without enough air in their tyres.
This is the equivalent of 370 million litres of fuel a year or one million tonnes of CO2 emissions.
The study was commissioned to highlight Michelin's Fill Up With Air campaign, which involves a roadshow in which Michelin staff offer free tyre checks.
Michelin's head of communications Peter Snelling warned that incorrectly inflated tyres are also a serious safety hazard.
"It really is a matter of life and death and people should learn to check their tyres regularly and thoroughly which is what we can help them to do," he said.
"Tyres that are under inflated can cause poor handling on the road and potentially lead to serious accidents and put lives at risk."
A recent review of tyre brands on the UK market by Which? found Continental Tyres to be the overall winner.
