Toyota Hilux drivers told not to leave tools in vehicle

Motorists using Toyota Hilux pickups and other vehicles have been reminded of the importance of not leaving their tools in the car.

Police in South Tyneside issued the warning to workers after a spate of robberies in the region over the course of recent weeks, reports the Shields Gazette.

South Tyneside chief inspector Michael Barton stated that a theft from a vehicle of this nature can prove to be especially costly if equipment is taken.

"And when these items are essential to an individual's livelihood, it can have a devastating effect on their ability to make a living," he said.

The officer noted ways to lessen the risk of being targeted in a robbery include ensuring nothing of any value is on display when the vehicle is left, along with using warning stickers to inform would-be thieves that nothing is held in the car.

Ring Automotive recently issued advice to Toyota Hilux drivers to lower the chances of being involved in an accident this winter by checking the state of their tyres.
