Toyota Hilux 2nd most popular pickup in NZ

Toyota Hilux and Nissan Navara pickups are proving popular with New Zealanders, according to new research.

A report from the Motor Industry Association (MIA) revealed that the two models came second and third in the bestseller list for July, it was stated in the New Zealand Herald.

Sales of the Toyota Hilux came in at 262, while the Nissan Navara made 248, which was behind the Suzuki Swift which took the number one spot with 325.

Registrations for July were ahead of the same month in 2009 and 2010, which reflected a positive rise following the disruptions of the Japanese tsunami earlier in the year, it was noted.

Chief executive officer of the MIA Perry Kerr said: "The new-vehicle industry is beginning to regain ground lost over the past three months, when sales were impacted by stock shortages."

The news comes after editor of Vansa2z.com Neil McIntee recently claimed that the new model Toyota Hilux, which is soon to be released in Britain, will not be too dissimilar to its predecessor.
