Tips for wet weather driving

Travelling in heavy rain can be particularly hazardous, so one expert has advised individuals how to make sure their journey is as safe as possible.

Mitsubishi L200 drivers may want to ensure they follow tips provided by the Institute of Advanced Motorists' (IAM's) chief examiner Peter Rodger, who explained how preparation is the key.

He recommended adjusting heater controls before beginning a journey, as windows can quickly steam up when it is wet outside and make vision difficult.

Turning headlights on and using cruise control if available can help prevent aquaplaning, Mr Rodger commented.

"Be cautious, especially after prolonged dry spells - rain on a dry road is dangerously slippery," it was noted.

Focusing on the road so smooth braking, accelerating and steering can be performed, rather than harsh manoeuvres, was also advised.

Elsewhere, head of training at the IAM's Drive and Survive group Simon Elstow recently explained how stopping distances need to be doubled in wet weather.
