The record books have been re-written and Britain can hold it's head up high once more, for Don Wales, the grandson of Sir Malcolm Campbell has achieved a world record speed of 87.833mph on his Kawasaki powered Countax ride on lawnmower.

To comply with the event regulations, Don had to cut grass outside the Pendine Sands Museum of Speed, before beginning his world record attempt.

The 'Project Runningblade' machine had to be built primarily from lawnmower parts, and the attempt has raised significant funds for the Wessex Heartbeat charity.

A spokesman for the team has stated that the 100 mph target is something the team will be aiming for in the future.
