Thatcham, the Motor Insurance Repair Research Centre announced that they have issued a certificate to a device by Tullman Design which will prevent motorists from filling their vehicle with the incorrect fuel.
The 'Diesel Key' is the first product to receive the Thatcham Quality Accreditation - now known as the TQA. The device, which fits in place of the existing fuel cap is designed to prevent the insertion of an unleaded fuel nozzle. This mistake is estimated to cost UK motorists over £800 million every year in repair costs.
The AA believes that some 400 motorists every day fill their vehicles with the incorrect grade of fuel.
Thatcham, which carries out research aimed at reducing the cost of Motor Insurance Claims, are well known for testing vehicle security systems and was established in 1969
