Survey finds 42% people row when driving

In-car arguments have led to 42 per cent of drivers having their Christmas celebrations ruined, according to a new survey.

Research carried out by Allianz Your Cover revealed one in five motorists feel more likely to be distracted at the wheel during the festive period.

Andy James, from the organisation, said: "Many people underestimate the impact that having an argument in the car can have on their driving."

It was found that 30 per cent of arguments are based on what route to take, with the average row lasting five minutes.

Mr James claimed motorists are often aware of the dangers of drink-driving at Christmas, but other factors that could affect safety can be overlooked.

Along with arguments, the expert noted faults with the vehicle could lead to accidents, as 27 per cent of people do not bother to carry out safety checks before embarking on a long drive.

Insurance company AXA, recently warned up to 56,000 individuals could be involved in road collisions this Christmas, based on figures from the previous two years.
