The Association of British Insurers (the ABI) have released the findings of a YouGov opinion poll which has identified that motorists who continue to speak or text on their mobile phones whilst they are driving, are regarded as being the biggest menace on Britain's roads.
A survey of 2000 motorists found that 3 in 4 people believed using a mobile phone at the same time as driving was the principal cause of accidents. 45% of motorists in the survey felt that young and inexperienced drivers were the next high risk category, whilst uninsured drivers were believed to be a risk by one in three people.
Motorists also felt that tougher action was needed to identify and expose insurance cheats who lied about or withheld information when taking out motor insurance. Over 70% of those polled stated that insurers should be able to check driving licences for convictions or endorsements.
