Poll finds employees take liberties with company cars

Organisations that provide employees with Ford Ranger company vehicles may be shocked by the findings of a new study.

Research conducted by uSwitch.com revealed people are more inclined to drive recklessly when in a car or van provided by their employer.

The study found 67 per cent of motorists are more likely to take bigger risks, while 52 per cent will breach the speed limit more often than when they are not in their own vehicle.

Personal finance expert at uSwitch.com Michael Ossei explained that a significant number of individuals are guilty of abusing work vehicle privileges.

However, he warned: "A company car doesn't give you carte blanche for risky driving - taking liberties ... could not only drive your boss round the bend, but also your insurance premium up."

HM Revenue and Customs reminds those considering taking on a company car employees will be charged additional tax if a vehicle is made available to them by their boss.
