The Nissan Navara is just one of the vehicles schoolchildren may have witnessed being produced on a visit to the manufacturer.
Thousands of young people were given access to the Sunderland plant of the company as part of an initiative to encourage individuals to go into the sector.
Business secretary Vince Cable was also at the factory to witness the production of a range of Nissan cars, vans and pickups and he stated that the coalition government is determined to shake up the perceived old-fashioned image of the industry.
"We are giving young people the chance to see the exciting face of modern manufacturing which is highly skilled, high tech and highly paid," he said.
Nissan Sunderland plant engineering director Richard Ebrahim added that almost everything that is used by people has been designed by an engineer.
Motorists with Nissan Narava models were recently advised by Simon Elstow, head of training at the Institute of Advanced Motorists' Drive and Survive programme, to reduce their chances of having an accident in their vehicle by preparing it for winter.
