Individuals looking for insurance policies for their Ford Ranger pickups may be shocked to hear how much youngsters can pay when starting out as drivers.
According to research conducted by the Co-operative Insurance found that the average total is £4,459.
This includes purchasing a first car, taking driving lessons, tests, insurance and road tax.
The study also revealed that more young people than ever are purchasing a vehicle at the age of 18.
Grant Mitchell, head of motor insurance at the organisation, said: "Our research shows that although today's young drivers own their first car from an earlier age than their parent's generation, the cost of actually getting on the road is huge."
However, the expert claimed many individuals have to rely on their parents to fund their driving costs as very few have savings.
The news comes after recent figures from the Motor Insurers' Bureau revealed the West Midlands has the highest level of drivers without insurance.
