Motorists urged to stay calm when driving

People planning to get behind the wheel of their leased Nissan Navara pickup truck during the bank holiday weekend may want to take one expert's advice.

Ellen Booth, senior campaigns officer for road safety charity Brake, explained how distractions can easily lead to serious accidents.

"Driving is a massive responsibility because of the harm you can cause, so when you're behind the wheel you must put safety first and stay focused," she stated.

Individuals were advised to pull over and "cool off" if they begin to feel upset or angry when travelling.

Her comments followed new research from Brake and Direct Line, which revealed 71 per cent of drivers have lost concentration when behind the wheel in the past year.

Stress, anger and upset was cited by 60 per cent of those asked as the reason why they have been unable to focus while driving.

Elsewhere, Brake recently stressed its support for the implementation of speed cameras as safety devices, after the Department for Transport published data on incidents recorded at the sites of such technology.
