Mitsubishi L200 named pickup of the year

The Mitsubishi L200 has won a prestigious accolade for the second year in a row ahead of other pickups in the UK marketplace.

It was named Fleet News' Fleet Van Pickup of the Year and remains the retail market leader in its segment, taking 30.5 per cent of the sector's share in 2011 to date.

One of the judges at the award ceremony said: "The L200 won this award thanks to its greater range of derivatives and load bed options and level of availability. Mitsubishi offers all the options for all fleet requirements."

It beat the Nissan Navara, Toyota Hilux and Volkswagen Amarok to take first place and was praised for its large range of horsepower options, as well as "competitive" pricing.

In September, Mitsubishi announced global production for August at 82,351 units, which was an 8.3 per cent fall compared with the same month in 2010 and the first consecutive drop since July 2011.
