Individuals leasing Isuzu Rodeo pickups may be surprised to hear about a new in-car game that is said to be proving popular with some drivers.
Research carried out by Sainsbury's Car Insurance revealed that in the past year 7.2 million motorists have raced to their destination in an attempt to arrive before the predicted time calculated by their satnav.
Almost 3.6 million of these admitted to breaking the speed limit in a bid to beat the technology.
Head of car insurance at Sainsbury's Finance Ben Tyte said: "Used correctly GPS units are a fantastic invention that help drivers navigate effectively and concentrate on the road far more than when using maps or printed directions."
However, he noted that many people are risking their safety and that of other motorists and pedestrians in order to become "GPS racers".
Behaviour such as driving through amber lights changing to red, racing across roundabouts and failing to stop at crossroads were all admitted by individuals taking part in this new game.
The findings come after Renault recently announced it has installed more than one million Carminat TomToms into many of its vehicles.
