Met Office releases severe weather warnings

Individuals driving Ford Ranger pickup vans may want to take heed of weather warnings as gales and heavy rain are predicted across the UK today (September 12th).

The Met Office has issued amber alerts in some areas of Britain as post-tropical storm Katia hits the country.

Chief forecaster at the organisation Bob Wilderspin stated: "The strongest winds will affect parts of Northern Ireland, the Central Lowlands and Southern Scotland and parts of Northern England."

He urged people to monitor conditions and use the Met Office's site to stay up-to-date with forecasts.

High winds are expected to bring large waves and spray over sea defences in coastal areas, while heavy rain could bring localised flooding in parts of western Scotland.

By the middle of the week, the winds are predicted to have calmed down, with weather returning to more normal conditions for the time of year.

Both north-east and north-west England have been advised to be prepared for strong winds, while the east and west Midlands should be aware.
