Toyota, Honda and Ford have all had pickup trucks in their range recognised for their high levels of crash protection.
The Insurance Institute for Highway (IIH) Safety's Top Safety Pick Awards evaluates vehicles based on their ability to protect passengers in front, side, rollover and rear crashes.
In total, 69 cars, 38 SUVs, five minivans and three pickups qualified in their individual size categories.
President at the IIH Adrian Lund said: "It's tough to win and we commend auto manufacturers for making safety a top priority."
Three pickups were highlighted in the awards, the Honda Ridgeline, Toyota Tundra and Ford F-150.
The ratings system covers all four of the most common types of crashes experienced by drivers and is designed to help people select vehicles that are the safest on the roads.
Elsewhere, the Toyota Hilux was recently named pickup truck of the year at the Total 4x4 magazine awards, ahead of rival models.
