Ford launches in-car mobile phone blocker device

Individuals interested in leasing a Ford Ranger pickup may be interested to hear how the manufacturer has launched a new technology designed to prevent mobile phone use while driving.

The new Ford MyKey Do Not Disturb feature aims encourage young motorists to concentrate on the road ahead by blocking incoming calls and text messages.

Before getting behind the wheel, users can set their mobile to divert all contact to voicemail and inbox storage for viewing later.

Peter Patzelt, Ford system architect for MyKey, said: "MyKey adds a new dimension to auto safety by giving drivers standard technology that encourages safer driving and limits their exposure to risk, regardless of age or experience."

As well as restricting phone use, the device can also limit a vehicle's top speed to 80mph and set a maximum volume on the radio.

The MyKey feature originally debuted as standard equipment on the 2010 Ford Focus and the manufacturer is now introducing it to more of its models.
