A new generation of Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger pickups could be launched following the announcement of a partnership between Ford and Toyota.
The two manufacturers are planning to work together on accelerating a new advanced hybrid system for pickups and SUVs in the US.
By working as a team, the organisations believe they can develop hybrid technologies that will be available to customers sooner and more affordably.
Takeshi Uchiyamada, Toyota executive vice-president of research and development, said: "We expect to create exciting technologies that benefit society with Ford and we can do so through the experience the two companies have in hybrid technology."
In addition, the manufacturers have agreed to work on developing telematics standards at both organisations so their internet-based services and information are more accessible to customers.
Elsewhere, Toyota recently announced it will be unveiling its latest production of the Prius Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle on September 15th at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
