DfT launches motorbike awareness campaign

A new campaign to help make people who drive vehicles such as Nissan Navaras more aware of motorcyclists has been launched.
The Department for Transport (DfT) is hoping to reduce the number of deaths from accidents caused by individuals failing to spot those on motorbikes.
People who ride the two-wheelers make up around 20 per cent of fatalities each year, despite only accounting for one per cent of the traffic on Britain's highways.
Road safety minister Mike Penning said: "While many drivers may take extra care at junctions, they often don't see bikers and this is a major factor in motorcycle casualties."
The THINK! campaign will include national radio adverts as well as reminders at petrol forecourts and online, in a bid to encourage motorists to consider the person riding the bike.
A DfT study conducted in 2008 revealed that the overall casualty rate for motorcycles had improved since 1998, with 23 per cent fewer people being killed or seriously injured.
