Chris Huhne visits Southampton Ford Plant

Secretary of state Chris Huhne may have witnessed the production of Ford Ranger vans during a visit to the manufacturer's Southampton plant.

The MP attended the factory with 30 students from three local schools, who were being educated in the latest advancements in engineering and manufacturing.

Mr Huhne's said of his visit: "Together with industry experts like Ford, we must inspire more young people to see manufacturing and engineering as a viable and exciting career choice."

His comments followed the Department of Energy and Climate Change's recent announcement that it will be supporting Ford's attempts to inspire the future talent of tomorrow.

Mr Huhne described how the manufacturer has played a "crucial part" in UK vehicle production in the last 100 years.

Entitled See Inside Manufacturing, the new initiative was launched in January, with business secretary Vince Cable calling upon the automotive sector to take the lead on the activity throughout 2011.
