Isuzu Rodeo drivers may want to take extra care when behind the wheel this month, as new research suggests children are failing to ensure they stay safe after dark.
Car insurance specialist Admiral asked 1,000 youngsters about their road safety habits and found just 48 per cent cross over in well-lit places.
Meanwhile, 33 per cent claimed to wear reflective clothing, but ten per cent admit they do nothing to make themselves more visible.
Admiral managing director Sue Longthorn commented: "With fewer hours of daylight, it's harder for motorists to see pedestrians as it is, but even more so if the pedestrians don't take precautions to make themselves more visible."
She added another area of concern is the fact eight per cent of children admit to crossing the road while talking on their phones, texting or listening to music.
According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, it is vital motorists stick to the speed limit, as each year more than 220 people are killed in incidents where vehicles are travelling too fast.
