Production of the Ford Ranger may have helped manufacturing figures to increase during September.
Figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) revealed that there was a boost of more than seven per cent over the course of the month.
Chief executive of the SMMT Paul Everitt stated that the body believes this trend is set to continue into 2012.
He said: "Major new investment by vehicle manufacturers is opening up opportunities for UK-based suppliers, helping to drive the economic recovery and private sector investment."
It is thought that increased manufacturing of cars all over the UK has been responsible for the safeguarding of as many as 12,000 jobs, with a further 7,400 new positions created.
This comes shortly after the SMMT claimed that the current state of the manufacturing sector in the UK means it is ripe for investment, with Mr Everitt hailing the potential of low-carbon vehicles to transform the industry.
