Budget News - Staggered rise in Fuel Duty

Thursday 25 March 2010 | By Colin WingfieldBack to Newsroom

Motorists are set to pay an additional 1p fuel duty following yesterday's budget announcement by the Chancellor, Alistair Darling. While this fell short of the predicted 3p rise, there is a sting in the tail, as the remainder of the rise will be staggered. A further 1p will be levied on 1st October 2010 with the balance coming into force on 1st Jan 2011.

No-one likes paying extra for their fuel, but at least manufacturers are responding by squeezing extra mpg from their vehicles. The new generation of pickup trucks are now more economical than their predecessors, and in many cases, this is coupled with enhanced performance as engine technology improves.
