Ford Ranger drivers may be among those who are unsure what the differences between summer and winter tyres are.
New research conducted by mytyres.co.uk revealed that 37 per cent of motorists do not know what wheels designed for the colder months are, while 31 per cent were not aware you can purchase them in the UK.
It was also found that younger drivers were the most unknowledgeable about the benefits of winter tyres, such as better traction in snow and icy conditions.
The poll revealed the majority of motorists believed the specialist wheels would be more expensive than normal tyres.
Despite the uninformed position that many individuals appear to be in, 75 per cent of respondents said they feel it is important to remain mobile in winter weather.
Elsewhere, Toyota recently recommended switching wheels in preparation of the colder months, as it is important vehicles are prepared for hazardous conditions.
