Anti-theft devices 'will deter thieves'

Mitsubishi L200 drivers may want to take one expert's advice on how to avoid becoming a victim of car theft.

Former burglar and security specialist Michael Fraser described in an interview with Confused.com what types of vehicles thieves will target.

He suggested that motors that feature visible anti-theft devices, or stickers that claim there is a tracker installed, are less likely to be targeted.

However, Mr Fraser described how burglars will be tempted by signs of technology within the vehicle such as marks left on windscreens by satnavs.

"This highlights the fact that you are not security conscious," the expert stated, adding that thieves may also discover a person's address if it is programmed into the device.

According to Mr Fraser leaving windows slightly ajar is like an open invitation to a car thief.

Tips aimed at helping minimise the chance of an incident and featured on car-theft.org include using a well-lit and secure car park that is monitored or has barrier entry and exits.
