Almost half of homeowners 'believe they own parking spaces'

Individuals looking to lease Toyota Hilux pickup trucks may agree with the 44 per cent of Brits who believe they "own" the nearest public parking space to their house.

New research from Churchill Car Insurance reveals that 18 per cent of those asked feel distressed when a stranger has left their vehicle in front of their property.

Despite, the road being a public highway, five per cent of people have used traffic cones, road signs and their car in order to stop others parking there.

Tony Chilcott, head of Churchill Car Insurance, remarked: "Parking issues can lead to heated arguments, but people need to be tolerant of drivers that are parking entirely legally, even if it is directly outside their property."

However, he added that it is important that motorists are considerate when leaving their vehicle in order to avoid making access difficult for homeowners or other road users.

On streets where residential permits are required, disabled blue badge holders can usually park in two hour spaces for as long as they wish, according to Direct Gov.
