Air conditioning 'still needs to be used in winter'

Individuals who drive Toyota Hilux pickups that feature air conditioning units may want to take heed of one expert's advice on keeping the device in good working order.

According to claims manager at MB&G Insurance Allan Simpson, switching the air conditioning on during winter can help prevent costly repair bills.

"Within two to three minutes the system should be blowing out very cold air and within five minutes the entire car interior should be very cool," he stated, adding this means the device is working well.

Some motorists may find the idea of using air conditioning in winter del strange, but Mr Simpson explained it is necessary to turn the unit on regularly so it stays charged and continues to work to full capacity.

Which? Car advises drivers to check their cooling systems throughout the year to make sure pipes are not left to corrode.

Using the air conditioning can also help to defrost a vehicle when conditions are icy, it was noted.
