AA concerned over UK Road Salt Stocks

The AA have expressed concern over data it has obtained that Britain's Local Authorities have 250 million tonnes less road salt in stock than they would have had ten years ago.

LA's have adopted a 'just in time' policy of ordering supplies of road salt, but this could leave many in a vunerable state if more than six days of continuous freezing conditions are experienced.

Despite assurances from the Highways Agency that they have made adaquate provision for motorway and major A roads, the AA are concerned that without adaquate supplies we could head for a repeat of the situation early in 2009 when many roads ground to a halt
